Devils Claw has been effective on symptoms of aging, muscle discomfort, headaches, improving digestion and rheumatic discomfort. In horses it has been found beneficial for degenerative disorders, swelling, discomfort due to aging and stiffness.
In particular, lavender has been known to have a soothing effect on both horses and humans alike. This has been scientifically proven! Ultimately, you'll want to address the root cause of your horse's uneasiness. Essential oils can definitely support your horse through the process though.
A natural relaxant, Chamomile promotes good behaviour as well as soothing digestive issues associated with stress and anxiety. A great way to support nervous equines. Use for well-being during times of tension and/or for animals who are prone to stress and spooking. Feed 7.5g per 100kg of body weight per day.
Bilberries are used to help with preventing macular degeneration and cataract formation. These eye conditions can affect many animals. Bilberries can also affect blood sugar levels and so is thought to have a role in helping diabetic pets.
Boneset is also known as Feverwort, Thoroughwort or sweating-plant. Given to a horse as a dried herb, boneset acts as a tonic. Nutrients found in boneset include calcium, magnesium, PABA, potassium and vitamins C and B-complex. Used extensively throughout the US by Native Americans and settlers.
Uses of Borage include the treatment of jaundice, coughs, fever, dermatitis, and kidney ailments. It has also been used to stimulate lactation and employed as a tonic, diuretic, demulcent and emollient. The medicinal value derives from the high concentration of -linolenic acid in the seed oil. Borage has supportive effects on the skin and can help support the production of natural oils in the skin. CAUTION: Borage is slightly poisonous if taken in excess. Burdock is an excellent aid to digestion and supports liver and kidney function. Celery seed can benefit the liver, spleen and urinary systems in several ways. The diuretic properties eliminate harmful toxins and excess fluids through urination. This can provide an excellent cleanse in many cases, such as a horse coming off the racetrack and who was treated with multiple potentially damaging conventional medications. It can also be beneficial for a horse that was hospitalized and treated with long-term antibiotics.
